Qu’est-ce que la Bêta-Alanine ? Comment agit-elle sur l’organisme ? La bêta-alanine est un acide aminé non-protéinogène (non essentiel à la synthèse des protéines). Présente dans la viande, la volaille et le poisson, la bêta-alanine est un précurseur de la carnosine, protéine stockée principalement dans les muscles squelettiques. Dans le foie, les cellules musculaires absorbent la bêta-alanine et la combinent avec de l’histidine pour produire la carnosine d’où son nom scientifique, β-alanyl-L-histidine. C’est de cette synthèse que découlent les multiples bienfaits de la bêta-alanine. Mais pas seulement ! L’apport de carnosine lié à la consommation de viandes, volailles ou poissons est insuffisant car absorbé par l’organisme et dégradé en un temps record par l’enzyme carnosinase. De plus, il faudrait en consommer énormément avant d’obtenir une dose minimale effective. De plus, plus l’âge avance, plus le taux de carnosine chute dans le corps. D’où l’intérêt d’un apport de bêta-alanine, le moyen le plus efficace pour augmenter le taux de carnosine dans le sang.
