Completely revised edition of the work published in 2017: the phenomenon of stress is explored in greater depth there in the light of the most recent research, including the polyvagal theory of Professor Stephen W. Porges.
Four-step plan for learning the heart coherence technique.
Advice on biofeedback devices and on apps for carrying out check measurements yourself.
Attention paid to the importance of a healthy lifestyle: relaxation, sleep, diet and physical exercise.
Written by Katrien Geeraerts, a graduate in biomedical sciences (KU Leuven) and a medical laboratory technologist, who after a burn-out and chronic hyperventilation became a heart coherence coach specialising in anxiety and hyperventilation, and by Louis Van Nieuland, a nurse, who trained her, has been offering heart coherence consultations in a hospital setting since 2012 and devised the four-step plan described in the book.
The work reads like a workbook: the four-step plan is followed at one's own pace, week after week, and each step closes with an exercise schedule. The practice takes about 3 × 6 minutes a day and can be supported by a biofeedback device or an app.
The book itself points it out at the outset: heart coherence training does not replace medical treatment. In case of serious disorders, consult your general practitioner or a medical specialist — the practice comes as a complement to medical follow-up, which it supports. This work is a reading and exercise medium; it establishes no diagnosis.
